Waterfalls and Wedding Proposals Don't Mix

Waterfalls are beautiful and romantic but they are not the place for wedding proposals.  One couple found this out the hard way recently in the northern part of our state.  Things went terribly wrong when Corey Winters got down on bended knee to propose to his girlfriend, Stephanie Cole, at Noccalula Falls near Gadsden, Alabama.
Corey told Stephanie that he wanted to show her the view of the Christmas lights that had just been installed in the park.  When he popped the question and put the ring on her finger he put it on her right hand.  When she corrected him he fumbled the ring - a three stone ring with a 1 carat diamond in the center and sapphires on the sides - and it fell through the planks of the bridge and into the rapids headed for the waterfall!
Corey, a veteran of Afghanistan and a member of the 3rd Marine Division, rolled up his pants and went in after the ring.  It was dark and cold.  He gave up after 30 minutes and came back the next day.  When the park staff spotted him in the water, they called the sheriff's office and they agreed to look for the ring for Corey.  After an hour of searching they actually located the ring.  Luckily, it had been trapped in some debris.  But, meanwhile, Corey had purchased a replacement ring!

It all worked out in the end - the jeweler took the replacement ring back and the original is on Stephanie's left hand!  This should be a precautionary tale for all guys thinking of elaborate proposals.  Keep the ring safe - she'll thank you for it!
