Sinful Colors Cuticle Oil - nail care updates and a limited paint

Lately I've been watching a lot of nail care videos. Like I said in my Summer Snow post I am currently trying to grow my nails out. Not into long talons but reasonably longer than what I'm used to, which for me means having visible tips on each nail collectively (because who wants one nail to be extremely longer than all the others ... anyway). In every nail care video I have watched all have stressed the importance of moisturising ones cuticles with oil. Apparently applying oil onto your cuticles and massaging it in will stimulate nail growth and make your nails stronger and longer. Oh and most importantly it will help your cuticles not peel, crack and look and be more healthy. A very simple idea and method that I have been trying out with Sinful Colors cuticle oil.

Now let me be honest, I have tried using this cuticle oil and general oil before and found that it was only ok. However, this time around I  upped the ante and have been using this cuticle oil profusely. The results : my nails have definitely grown out stronger, they are not as weathered from my acetone polish remover and did I mention that they're strong without nail polish too. Don't get me wrong I still get snags which I have to file down and some tears every now and then but, overall I very happy and somewhat sure that moisturising my cuticles along with other 'healthy nail care practices' allowed me to have strong nails with reasonable length.

Why am I speaking in the past tense ??? Well, I filled all my nails down today. I know I'm trying to grow them out but, its hard for me to just let them grow especially when they're a bit uneven (snags can really mess up ones progress) and I definitely want them to be even length.

I get it, enough about the challenge and my nail preferences you want to know more about the nail oil ... right

Sinful Colors Cuticle Oil review
Sinful Colors Cuticle Oil smells good and its inexpensive. Its not a thick oil but, not too thin either. It has a lightweight feel and sinks into your nails/skin well with a gentle massage. It does not leave my nails greasy and feels a bit like a dry oil. I wouldn't say that this oil is a miraculous product in itself because any oil (like vitamin e/ almond/ olive etc) can be used on the nail with great results (I have not tried these other oils solely myself, but might in the future).

Yet, in comparison to other commercial nail oil products Sinful Colors Cuticle Oil is well priced and reasonable to most budgets and does the job well. Did I say it smells nice ... well it does (a light almost fruity scent, almost like a white grape wine ... without the alcohol smell ... am I making sense ... no ... forget it then ...). Plus you get a lot of oil for the price ... my bottle spilled (I'm clumsy) and a lot of product came out but, I still have a little less than half of the bottle and I use this oil daily so I'm not too sad about the spillage. Sometimes I have carried it out with me but, fearing another clumsy oil spill I keep it at home and use hand moisturiser instead to pamper my hands ...

Would I recommend it? Yes. Would I buy it again? Yes. Any downsides? Its not 'natural' and making my own cuticle oil would be cheaper (extra virgin olive oil can be bought for around £1 with lots more content). Any plus points? It doesn't contain the toxic 3 (Toluene, DBP and Formaldehyde + Camphor) - its inexpensive in comparison to other cuticle oils and its lightweight.

Finally, how do I use it? Well I apply it to my cuticles which are basically around the edges of your nail plate (the part you don't paint) after I finished my manicure. Also I apply it under my nail tip (if I have any) and massage it in. You can apply cuticle oil whenever you want to: on bare nails, when you finished a manicure and whilst your wearing one several days in (which is what I do too). Basically apply it all the time make it into a little minute pamper session, in the morning and the night and in between when possible. I find that my nails have been very strong in spite of constant nail polishing and removing. Like always, I'll update about my thoughts and if they change and when this bottle comes to an end.

Nail Care updates
This picture shows my nails before my file down. As you can see I have tip length (which is uneven - my index finger is a bit longer than the others) but my tips are relatively white and my nail beds are not really stained (I wear/ wore polish daily only going without for around 2 days Max  in a week and I always use(d) a base coat - Nutra Nail Mineral/ Sally Hansen Nail growth miracle/ Boots Clear Nail Polish - basically anything clear = base coat lol).  My nails tips were very strong and my cuticles don't look too raggedy (if I do say so myself ;). This picture has not been edited (though I feel like it needs to be ... lol) eeek I feel weird about people seeing my bare nails with tips because I usually have polish to cover it up, I don't know why but it makes me feel creepy ... am I the only one that feels this way??. The foundation bottle I'm holding is Maybelline Fit Me in 355 Coconut, just in case you were wondering ...
More hand snaps but this time with Barry M Nail Paint in the Limited Edition 024 Colour. Its an interesting shade which is slightly pink but mostly purple, its bright and unique and applies like a dream. Like most polishes on my nails it doesn't last too long even with the cult fav Seche Vite on top. Its definitely one of my fav nail polishes colours, its a true crème with great pigmentation ... you could get away with applying one coat but I always like to apply at least two. For this manicure I applied 2 coats on top of a base coat. These pictures were either taken on the second or third day of my manicure (not sure) but as you can see, the colour is quite vibrant, though up close my nails do have some wear and tear ...
One last picture ;)
So ...
Do you have a favourite cuticle oil? Is it a home made blend of do you buy the ready made kind? Do you moisturise your cuticles? If yes, how often? If not, why not? Does it impact nail growth and strength?
Your thoughts and comments are always welcomed and appreciated :) much love as always !!
