BLONDE MOMENT:
'The fashion wheel has turned and platinum blonde is having its moment. What starts as out-there and avant garde will evolve into being au courant and fashionable then enter the mainstream until it passes out of fashion. And then the cycle starts anew and this is why platinum is popping up, again. When the Devil wore Prada she was also wearing platinum; when Meryl Streep sported her solid light hair in the film of the same name, a few years ago, it was a first peak at this all-over blonde trend that is emerging. I wrote about blondes in a previous post for MODERNSALON.com.'
FALL 2014 TRENDS:
'We are still seeing the softer, summer/fall ombre or 'sombre' and I had a strong feeling this trend would stick with us in its various, different forms as it takes on a new feel. Gently sun-kissed or tipped ends of a gradually lighter color is a welcome change from the strong line of demarcation of the dramatic ombre (drombre?) in which the transition was from black to blonde. This is a much softer progression and definitely feels on-trend throughout the fall. My dear friend and client Carol Alt has a version of this look, right now. Her ends gradually, beautifully lighten up as you see her darker hair progress throughout. I'm a huge Bravo fan and Carole Radziwill of The Real Housewives of New York is definitely wearing a somber, right now. Her hair starts out darker and bleeds into light, with gradual transition and the results if lovely.'
SEEING RED AHEAD:
'It's truly a challenge for stylists and colorist to capture a really, really good red. Achieving great color is something I educate around because I created my own blonding/highlighting techniques to help colorists transition their clients from season to season. The blondes who are on-trend will gradually add more lowlites -- deeper, richer, darker tones throughout their blonde hair --while brunettes can consider adding deeper and warmer tones. This echoes the shifts that happen when leaves start to turn and fashion choices change to woolens and tweeds. Brunettes can add a touch of deep gold and hints of reds/auburns and moving into winter we can look to cooler and darker browns.'
