Avon Shine Burst Gloss Sticks | Review

avon shine burst lipstick review

Here's to folks who would love to give the matte lip trend a rest. I am reviewing the Avon Shine Burst gloss sticks today, and showing you hand and lip swatches as well.

Avon Shine Burst gloss sticks - creamy and hydrating

Avon released these gems back in 2016 I think, and that's exactly when I made these photos, but then the entire thing got postponed because I couldn't update the blog the way I wanted. Regardless, you can still buy these as far as I know. I usually go to an actual walk-in Avon store, and the lady there says that even if something is not in the catalogue, you can still buy it just by asking for it. So there's a piece of info for you about that.

Avon Shine Burst lipstick packaging - metallic and plastic

The Avon Shine Burst lipsticks come in a metallic plastic tube that is quite pleasing to the eye. The outer packaging is colour-coordinated in shade groups, so the nudes will have rose gold packaging, the pink ones pink packaging, reddish and coral shades will come in red packaging and the purples and plums in purple. They are very slim, therefore easy to apply even without a mirror. Each holds 1.8 grams of product and the price is around $3-5, depending if they are on sale or not. I bought mine for around $4.

In the official description, Avon says they are glossy, creamy, hydrating and smell like fruit while having pigmentation to effortlessly cover the lips. I agree with these claims, I am writing this review after 3 years of use after all. There is some use of being late as hell with stuff, it seems.

I am a big fan of creamy lipsticks, and these Shine Burst gloss sticks feel like the upgraded version of the Revlon lip butters. I adore the fruity smell of these guys! They still smell the same after 3 years of using them, and considering we have disgustingly hot summers that can kill lip products with ease, it's a great thing.

The formula is incredibly creamy, comfortable and moisturizing. According to Avon, they contain papaya,  pomegranate and coconut oil. They have medium-buildable pigmentation and two finishes: creamy and shimmery. Their color range contains 15 shades, most of them being pinks. Even if one is in the red category package-wise, it's still pink.

Being creamy lip products, they will break off if you roll them up too high, so don't do that. Two of mine did that unfortunately. The lipstick iself also tends to spin in the tube as you roll up and down, so the slanted tip might face a different direction compared to what it faced originally. You can just grab it and spin it back in place.

They will wear off if you eat, so you have to reapply them after. They also transfer, so make sure you don't overapply them, or they might end up on your teeth. Remember, they are pigmented enough to show up on teeth!I prefer it to longlasting lip products though, as these always look juicy while their longlasting sisters (let's say matte liquid lippies) can look crusty as hell at the end of the day.

Let's move onto the shades I own:

I actually have 6 of them, even though you only see 5 in this post. I bought the shade Grapefruit after I photographed my first 5 shades. I received 2 of these as PR-samples, and bought 3 of them (+1 later) myself. That is kind of telling how I love them.

Pros:
- creamy, comfortable
- extra glossy
- hydrating
- delicious smell
- can be applied without a mirror
- affordable
- slim format = precise application

Cons:
- too many pink shades
- breaks off when rolled up too far
- lipstick itself tends to spin in tube, changing the direction of the slanted tip

So yes, I do recommend these, a creamy and comfy lipstick comes handy in any makeup bag.

Do you like creamy lip products or are you partial to matte, longlasting ones?

~ Ev

Two of the lipsticks were PR-samples, the other 3 were purchased by me.
